As a Spirit filled Christian, you have the unique ability to think correctly.
1 Corinthians 2:10–14 (NIV)
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for,
“Who has known the mind of the Lord
so as to instruct him?”
But we have the mind of Christ.
Listen to passage & devotional:
Belgic Confession of Faith, Article 11: The Deity of the Holy Spirit
We believe and confess also
that the Holy Spirit proceeds eternally
from the Father and the Son—
neither made,
nor created,
nor begotten,
but only proceeding
from the two of them.
In regard to order,
he is the third person of the Trinity—
of one and the same essence,
and majesty,
and glory,
with the Father and the Son.
He is true and eternal God,
as the Holy Scriptures teach us.
Summary
Only you know exactly what's going on in between your ears. Others may think they know what you think, based on your reactions, behavior and other tells, but for lots of reasons these external impressions people have aren't always accurate.
So it is with God. People have all sorts of notions about who and what God is, based upon their own interpretations of how they see (or even don't see) God act. But since God, as C.S. Lewis put it, is an "untamed lion," mankind's ability to decipher the mind of God based on the evidence we've collected from His creation is woefully inept (especially considering the noetic effect that sin has on our thinking capacity that we focused on earlier this year).
But you can truly know God, and you can know Him through His Spirit, who "searches all things, even the deep things of God." As a Christian, you have received this Spirit, "who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us."
This is why so many people have such a dim view of God, the Bible and Christianity. Since they don't have the Spirit of God, they consider the things that come from God as "foolishness."
Dig Deeper
The Holy Spirit has a massive impact on you. Perhaps our more Pentecostal friends look for evidence of the Spirit's presence in a person through certain 'charismatic' reactions, but passages like this one remind us that the Spirit's presence in a person more often has a much more subtle and nuanced effect.
Simply put, the Holy Spirit enables you to think properly, in the way God designed mankind to think. He cures that pesky noetic effect so that once again you can "make judgments about all things." Not subjective judgments based on your own limited experiences, but true and correct judgments that reflect the very mind of God Himself!
So, when you're well fed with God's Word, which is the mechanism by which God ordinarily fills you with His Spirit, have confidence in the conclusions you come to. Check your ideas for sure with other Spirit filled Christians who also know the mind of God, but then act confidently in the understanding you've been given, even if it's far different than what the world thinks.
After all, since you have the Holy Spirit, who is of the same essence, majesty and glory as God the Father and God the Son, know that you "have the mind of Christ!"
Now get out there and use it!
ACKNOWLEDGE WHO GOD IS: Our Father, who shares His thoughts with us through the indwelling of His Spirit;
ALIGN YOUR LIFE WITH GOD'S WILL: Pray for the confidence to use your Spirit-renewed mind and share its wisdom with others;
